Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 18, 2026
The McMaster Pre-Law Society (MPLS, "we", "us") is a student-run club at McMaster University. This page explains what information we collect through this website and our events, and what we do with it. We're a volunteer-run club, not a company, so treat this as a plain-language summary of how we actually handle your information rather than a formal legal document. If you have questions, just email us.
What We Collect
We collect information you give us directly, such as when you:
- Fill out an event registration or sign-up form (name, email, program/year, and anything else the form asks for)
- Send us a message through the Contact page or by email
- Join our mailing list or follow us on social media
We don't run analytics or tracking scripts on this site as of the date above. If that changes (for example, adding basic visit-count analytics), this section will be updated to say so before it happens.
How We Use It
- To send you updates about MPLS events, opportunities, and announcements you've signed up for
- To manage event registrations, attendance lists, and, where relevant, membership records
- To respond to messages sent through our Contact page or email
We don't sell your information, and we don't share it with anyone outside MPLS except as described below.
Who We Share It With
We may share limited information in a few specific cases:
- With McMaster University or a venue, when needed to book a room or run an event (for example, an attendee headcount)
- With email or form tools we use to run sign-ups and mailing lists (like Google Forms or Mailchimp-style services), which process data on our behalf under their own privacy terms
- If required by law
Event Photos
We often take photos and occasionally video at MPLS events, and may post them on this website, our Instagram, or other social media. By attending an event, you're agreeing that photos or video including you might be used this way. If you'd rather not be photographed, let an exec know at the event, or email us afterward and we'll take a photo down if you're identifiable in it.
Cookies
This site doesn't currently set any cookies of its own. If we add tools later that do (like analytics or an embedded form), we'll update this section.
How Long We Keep Information
We keep event and membership records roughly as long as they're useful for running the club, generally no more than a few years, and delete or archive older lists when we do our end-of-year handover to the next exec team.
Third-Party Links
This site links to outside services, including Wizeprep, sponsor websites, and job postings. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and we're not responsible for how they handle your information once you leave our site.
Not Directed at Children
This site is meant for university students and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Your Choices
You can unsubscribe from our mailing list at any time (there's an unsubscribe link in our emails), or email us to ask what information we have about you, correct it, or have it deleted.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the club's tools or practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the most recent revision.
